Loyola Medicine Hospice offers compassionate hospice care to support patients and families during life's final season. Our personalized care plans focus on pain relief, symptom management and emotional support, empowering patients to spend meaningful time with loved ones.
Care is provided in the patient's home, with inpatient care for symptom control and pain management provided at Loyola University Medical Center. Respite care is provided at skilled nursing facilities or at long-term care facilities in the community.
Our hospice services include:
- Management of pain and other symptoms.
- 24/7 physician availability, including home visits as needed.
- Nursing care provided with dignity and respect.
- Emotional and spiritual counseling.
- Help with daily tasks, such as bathing and dressing.
- Delivery and management of medications, medical supplies and equipment.
- Care wherever patients call home.
- Grief support after a loved one’s passing.
- Guidance documenting end-of-life wishes.
Our dedicated team collaborates closely with each patient and family, prioritizing individual needs, values and preferences. Hospice Volunteers at Loyola Medicine
Loyola is always searching for compassionate volunteers to enrich the lives of patients with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones. Full training is provided for volunteers interested in hospice care.
Those who have recently lost a loved one are asked to wait a year before becoming volunteers.
Volunteer Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Emotional maturity
- Ability to offer assurance and kindness without judgment
- Ability to listen with sensitivity and respect
- Flexibility to adapt to the changes in the patient’s/family’s needs
- Background check clearance
- Maintain a safe environments for self, clients, visitors and medical staff
Ways to Volunteer
- Companionship
- Respite care – Support to provide a break to patient’s caregivers/loved ones
- Supportive check-in calls for grieving families
- Light household assistance
- Meal preparation assistance
- Spiritual support
- Arrange for transportation and/or run errands
- Administrative assistance
