MAYWOOD, IL – Loyola Medicine’s Gottlieb Memorial Hospital and MacNeal Hospital have been included in Becker's Hospital Review’s list of '100 great community hospitals' for 2026.

“This honor reflects the strength of our teams, the trust of our communities and our shared Mission to serve with excellence,” said Shawn P. Vincent, president and CEO of Loyola Medicine. “It’s a wonderful acknowledgment of our colleagues who play a vital role in creating a healing environment where patients feel supported and receive the highest standard of care.”

Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, Melrose Park, IL, recognized for exceptional care

Gottlieb’s recognition highlights the hospital’s first Magnet recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a distinction held by fewer than 10% of U.S. hospitals, and the hip and knee replacement program which was designated a “Blue Distinction Center+” by Blue Cross Blue Shield that same year. Also in 2025, the hospital received laboratory accreditation with exemplary status from the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the highest level of recognition an electrodiagnostic laboratory can achieve. In addition, its skilled nursing unit and acute inpatient rehabilitation programs achieved the highest level of accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

MacNeal Hospital, Berwyn, IL, recognized for exceptional care

MacNeal Hospital was recognized for more than a century of clinical excellence, innovation and community leadership. In August 2024, the hospital received a Magnet with Distinction designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which is awarded to only the top 1% of hospitals nationwide. The hospital earned the “Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Award” from the American Heart Association in 2025, received “Blue Distinction Center+” recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois for both maternal medicine and hip and knee replacement care, and was recognized as a “Meritorious Performer” by the American College of Surgeons national surgical quality improvement program in 2025, placing it among only 43 hospitals in the nation to achieve that distinction. In January 2026, the hospital opened its newly renovated pulmonary rehabilitation service line.
