MELROSE PARK, IL – Loyola Medicine’s Gottlieb Memorial Hospital has received its first Magnet® Recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This prestigious designation is considered the gold standard for nursing excellence and is awarded to hospitals that demonstrate superior quality in patient care, nursing leadership and innovation in professional nursing practice.
Fewer than ten percent of hospitals in the U.S. have earned Magnet status, which reflects a hospital’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for nurses and delivering outstanding patient outcomes.
The Commission praised the hospital’s commitment to quality patient care and professional nursing practice, recognizing 13 exemplars of nursing excellence, including:
- Outstanding performance in nursing-sensitive indicators across both inpatient and ambulatory settings
- Exceptional patient experience scores in courtesy and respect, careful listening and patient education
- Nurse-driven protocols that lead to a 51% reduction in inpatient falls with injury
- A robust culture of shared governance, clinical autonomy and transformational leadership
- Innovations in care delivery, including the use of Avasure virtual monitoring technology and the iCARE communication model
“Gottlieb’s first Magnet designation reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality patient care, fostering a strong professional practice environment for nursing, and driving organizational excellence,“ said Tara Yurinich, MSN, RN, chief nursing officer at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. “The impact of this work is evident—in our nurse-sensitive indicators, in our patient experience scores, and in our continued success in attracting and retaining exceptional nursing talent.”
The ANCC highlighted Gottlieb’s consistent outperformance of national benchmarks in key areas such as hospital-acquired pressure injuries, CAUTIs, CLABSIs and ambulatory surgical outcomes — all driven by frontline nursing leadership and collaboration.
“This designation affirms the strength of our nursing culture—one built on trust, collaboration and a shared commitment to continuous improvement,” said Elizabeth Early, president of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. “It’s a proud moment for Gottlieb and a testament to the entire staff whose dedication and teamwork make this level of excellence possible.”
