Required Rotations (4-5 weeks unless otherwise specified)

  • Orientation (2 weeks for internal candidates, 4 weeks for external candidates)
  • Burn Intensive Care Unit
  • Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Infectious Diseases (if not completed as a PGY1)
  • Medical Intensive Care Unit
  • Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit
  • Surgical- Trauma Intensive Care Unit
    • Elective Rotations (4-5 weeks unless otherwise specified, residents complete a total of 14 to 19 weeks of elective rotations)
      Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant
  • Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Intensive Care Unit Float
  • Lung Transplant
  • MacNeal Intensive Care Unit (offsite if available)
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Nutrition (2 weeks)
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • Poison Center/Toxicology (offsite if available)
  • Repeat any required rotation
    • Required Longitudinal Experiences
  • Continuing Education Seminar (15 weeks); a total of 4-5 weeks dedicated to project time
  • Critical Care Conference (49 weeks); weekly one hour sessions
  • Emergency Response (26 weeks); Alternating weeks covering 8 hour shifts of either code blue or code stroke pager response
  • Medication Use Evaluation (39 weeks); a total of 4-5 weeks dedicated to project time
  • Pharmacy Improvement (18 weeks); a total of 4-5 weeks dedicated to project time
  • Pharmacy Operations (52 weeks)
    • Two 8 hour staffing shifts every 3rd weekend
    • Emergency Department On Call Staffing (5PM-10PM) rotating between PGY1 and PGY2 Critical Care residents
  • Research Project (51 weeks); a total of 4-5 weeks dedicated to project time
  • Teaching and Learning Certificate [if not completed as a PGY1] (6 months); weekly hour long lectures
