Loyola Medicine donates pediatric mobile health unit to Family Christian Health Center

MAYWOOD, IL – Loyola Medicine is donating its pediatric mobile health unit to Family Christian Health Center (FCHC), expanding access to essential health care services for underserved children and families across the south suburban region.
The pediatric mobile health unit, a fully equipped doctor’s office on wheels, has served more than 157,000 children and young adults in underserved Chicago-area communities since it began operations in 1998.
The newest 30-foot mobile unit, launched in October 2014 with support from the Children’s Care Foundation, has two clinic rooms and is designed to provide a wide range of services, including physical exams, immunizations, health screenings, lab tests and health education.

Founded in 2000 by a group of family practitioners, FCHC provides high-quality, accessible health care to medically underserved residents in Harvey and surrounding communities. The addition of Loyola’s mobile unit will enhance the organization’s ability to reach children and young adults who may otherwise face barriers to care.

Loyola’s innovative pediatric mobile health unit continues vital community role with FCHC transition
As the first program of its kind in the Midwest, the pediatric mobile health unit has played a critical role in delivering care to patients from birth through age 21, helping bridge gaps in access and improving health outcomes across the region.
The Children’s Care Foundation expressed enthusiasm for the program’s continued impact.
