Categorical Applicants
Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in Loyola Medicine's Internal Medicine Residency program! Please note the following application requirements:
- The Loyola Internal Medicine Residency Program will again participate in the Supplemental ERAS Application process for the 2026 match.
- Applications will be accepted via ERAS only. Allopathic and osteopathic applicants are welcome.
- All applications must be received by December 1st.
- While we preferentially review applications from those who signal our program, we also consider applicants who do not signal us.
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your professional qualifications. We strongly encourage that one of these letters be a Department of Medicine Chairman letter.
- Applicants must have graduated from medical school within the last two years. Applicants from international medical schools must be ECFMG eligible prior to any interview and certified prior to starting residency, if matched.
- J1 visas are sponsored. H1B visas will not be sponsored.
- Applicants with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) status are welcome.
Please note that each ERAS application is reviewed individually. Each year we receive thousands of applications for a limited number of interview slots. To help you plan your application strategy, it may be helpful for you to know the characteristics of the typical applicant invited to interview this past recruitment season:
Our intern selection committee prioritizes applicants who are active final year medical students, who have demonstrated a high level of performance throughout medical school and particularly in rotations within Internal Medicine, and who have consistently excellent performance on certification exams.
We recognize that some applicants may value the opportunity to revisit programs after interviews to help inform their rank decisions. However, our program has chosen not to participate in the Voluntary Program Rank Order List (ROL) Lock Pilot, and we will not be offering post-interview second-look visits.
Our decision is rooted in a commitment to equity. Many applicants face financial and logistical barriers to traveling to Chicago, and we believe that all candidates should be evaluated and supported based on the same experience - their interview day. By maintaining a consistent and fair process for all, we aim to reduce unnecessary pressure and ensure that every applicant has an equal opportunity to engage with our program.
We welcome your questions and are happy to provide additional insight into our program. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
In alignment with the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM) guidelines, our program is committed to promoting a fair and minimally disruptive interview process for all applicants.
We release initial interview invitations on Tuesdays and Fridays after 3:00 p.m. Central Time (CT). This timing is intended to reduce interference with clinical responsibilities such as morning rounds across U.S. time zones. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to connecting with you during the interview season.
If you have any specific questions about the Loyola Internal Medicine Residency itself, which are not addressed elsewhere on our website, you are encouraged to contact our Program Coordinator in charge of recruitment, Stephen White at spwhite@lumc.edu.
