2027–2028 Academic Year: Special Recruitment Opportunity

For the 2027–2028 academic year, Loyola Medicine is accepting applications from exceptional physicians who have completed an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency and are committed to pursuing a career in transplant hepatology. 

This unique opportunity allows one qualified internal medicine graduate to complete an ACGME-accredited Transplant Hepatology Fellowship prior to entering a gastroenterology fellowship. Candidates must intend to subsequently complete an ACGME-accredited gastroenterology fellowship and fulfill all applicable ABIM requirements for board certification in both specialties. 

Application Deadline: December 11, 2026

Interviews: Mid-to-Late December 2026

Interested candidates should apply directly to Loyola Medicine by submitting the following documents: 

• Official medical school transcripts 
• Official record of board examination scores (USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3, or equivalent examinations) 
• Three letters of recommendation, including one from the most recent residency program director 
• Current curriculum vitae 
• Valid ECFMG certificate, if applicable 
• GME Application (required only upon acceptance of a fellowship offer)

2028–2029 Academic Year: Traditional Transplant Hepatology Fellowship

Applicants who have completed or will be completing an ACGME-accredited gastroenterology fellowship and wish to pursue an additional year of transplant hepatology training in 2028–2029 should apply through the standard AASLD application process. Applications are accepted through the AASLD Fellowship Application Portal.

J-1 visa sponsorship is available for eligible applicants to Loyola's ACGME-accredited Transplant Hepatology Fellowship, in accordance with ECFMG and institutional requirements.
