Shawn P. Vincent receives AHAPAC Grassroots Champion Award

MAYWOOD, IL – Shawn P. Vincent, President and Chief Executive Officer of Trinity Health’s Illinois/Indiana Region which includes Loyola Medicine and Saint Joseph Health System, has been named the Illinois recipient of the American Hospital Association Political Action Committee's (AHAPAC) 2026 Grassroots Champion Award. The award recognizes exceptional leadership in advocacy on behalf of hospitals, patients and communities.

Presented annually by AHAPAC in partnership with state hospital associations, the Grassroots Champion Award recognizes hospital leaders who educate elected officials on key health care policy issues, strengthen community support for hospitals and advance the hospital mission at both the state and national levels.

"I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from AHAPAC and the Illinois Health and Hospital Association," said Vincent. "Advocacy plays a vital role in shaping policies that impact the health and well-being of the communities we serve. This award reflects the collective efforts of caregivers, leaders and advocates who work every day to expand access to care, improve health outcomes and ensure our patients' voices are represented."

Vincent will be recognized Oct. 1 during the Illinois Health and Hospital Association Leadership Summit at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center.

CEO honored for elevating patient voices and advocating for accessible, high-quality healthcare

A longtime advocate for Illinois hospitals and the patients they serve, Vincent served as chairman of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association Board of Trustees in 2025. The IHA Board serves as the association's policymaking body and represents more than 200 hospitals and nearly 40 health systems throughout Illinois.

"Shawn understands that advocacy is not separate from healthcare delivery. It is an essential part of how we serve our patients and communities," said Shana Jo Crews, vice president of advocacy for Trinity Health’s Illinois/Indiana Region. "Whether he is engaging with policymakers, championing access to care or elevating the needs of vulnerable populations, Shawn leads with purpose and passion. He is a tireless advocate for policies that help remove barriers to care and create healthier communities. This recognition reflects his unwavering commitment to ensuring every person has the opportunity to achieve their best health."

Vincent joined Loyola Medicine from Augusta University Health, where he served as chief operating officer. Prior to that, he held leadership positions with Hospital Corporation of America, Phymatrix Corporation and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Vincent earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Georgia and a bachelor's degree in healthcare management from Appalachian State University. He serves as an executive fellow of the Advisory Board Company on Healthcare in Washington, D.C., and previously served as chair-elect of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association Board of Trustees.
