MAYWOOD, IL – Following a nationwide search, Chris M. Gonzalez, MD, MBA, FACS, has been named regional chief clinical officer, Trinity Health Illinois/Indiana region, which includes Loyola Medicine and Saint Joseph Health System, effective June 1, 2025.

Dr. Gonzalez has dedicated the previous seven years to Loyola Medicine, currently serving as chair of the department of urology, chief of surgery for Loyola University Medical Center and the Albert J. Jr. and Claire R. Speh professor at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He is the regional director of urology for Trinity Health’s Illinois/Indiana region and represents Loyola's physician faculty on the Regional Board of Directors. 

In his new role, Dr. Gonzalez will provide strategic oversight for our clinically integrated network, quality and safety processes, pharmacy and other clinical services, medical staff recruitment and graduate medical education.

Dr. Gonzalez earned a medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed his urologic residency at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1991 to 2001 and as chief of urology for VA Lakeside from 2003 to 2006. He joined Northwestern's faculty in 2000, earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 2006, and was appointed professor in 2011. He was the director of surgery for the Northwestern Medicine surgical services department from 2014 to 2015. In 2015, Dr. Gonzalez was named the Lester Persky professor and chair of the Urology Institute at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University, where he served until 2018. 

Dr. Gonzalez has held multiple national leadership positions, including chair of public policy and practice support for the American Urologic Association. He is a member of the Clinical Society of Genitourinary Surgeons and the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons which awarded him the Barringer medal in 2022. He is an associate editor for the genitourinary reconstruction section of Urology and a section editor of Urology Times. He has published more than 160 peer-reviewed manuscripts, review articles, invited editorials and book chapters. His research focus is on patient-reported outcome measures in genitourinary reconstruction; practice patterns in reconstructive urologic surgery, integration of advanced practice providers; and the urology workforce shortage in the United States. 

He is a current trustee of the American Board of Urology and serves as chair of its certifying examination committee. Dr. Gonzalez is president-elect for the Society of Genitourinary Reconstruction Surgeons in 2026, and president-elect for the American Board of Urology in 2027.
