MAYWOOD, IL – Two Loyola Medicine pathologists have been named to The Pathologist magazine's "The Power List 2019", an international listing of the "100 leading innovators in pathology and laboratory medicine."
Eva Wojcik, MD, chair of Loyola University Medical Center's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, was named No. 4 on the list and Kamran Mirza, MD, PhD, medical director of molecular pathology, was named No. 5 on the list. Dr. Mirza also made the 2018 Power List.
Dr. Wojcik, the Helen M. and Raymond M. Galvin Professor of Pathology, was cited for her support of the See, Test and Treat free women’s cancer screening program at Loyola and for her worldwide leadership in developing a standardized platform for interpreting urine samples when diagnosing bladder cancer.
People who nominated Dr. Wojcik said she is a "champion of the underserved" and her career is a "testament of service to others."
Dr. Mirza was nominated for his "tireless contributions to pathology and laboratory medicine education and his work to improve communication between pathology and other medical fields."
Dr. Mirza received the 2019 Teaching Excellence Award from The Ohio State University's Pathology Student Interest Group and the 2019 Outstanding Classroom Educator award from the graduating class of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. In 2017, Dr. Mirza was voted one of the top five honorees in the American Society for Clinical Pathology's 40 Under Forty list.
“We are proud to learn that our esteemed Pathology faculty members Dr. Wojcik and Dr. Mirza have been recognized by peers in their field. Their commitment to quality in support of our patients is appreciated by all of us at Loyola Medicine,” said Shawn P. Vincent, president and chief executive officer.
