MAYWOOD, IL – Loyola Medicine will expand access to life-changing transplant care with the opening of a new kidney transplant clinic in Merrillville, Indiana, on November 6, 2026.
Located at 90 West 86th Avenue, Loyola Medicine Merrillville will provide local access for kidney transplant consultations, evaluations and follow-up care. Patients who require transplantation will continue to receive their transplant procedures at Loyola University Medical Center and then return to their community for ongoing management after transplant.
“This new location reflects our ongoing commitment to bring exceptional specialty care closer to the communities we serve while creating new pathways for patients who may benefit from the expertise of Loyola Medicine's nationally recognized transplant program,” said Shawn P. Vincent, president and CEO of Loyola Medicine.
By establishing a presence in Northwest Indiana, Loyola Medicine is creating greater convenience for patients and families. The clinic also supports new referral pathways for Indiana nephrologists whose patients may benefit from Loyola Medicine's transplant expertise.
The Merrillville clinic will operate similarly to Loyola Medicine's regional transplant satellite clinics, bringing our transplant specialists closer to patients while keeping the comprehensive transplant program centered at Loyola.
At the clinic, Loyola Medicine providers will conduct kidney transplant consultations, evaluate patients for transplant candidacy, complete pre-transplant workups and testing coordination. Patients will receive transplant surgery and inpatient transplant care at Loyola University Medical Center. Following transplant, care will be coordinated between Loyola's transplant team and each patient's local providers to ensure a seamless experience.
“Our mission is to provide personalized, comprehensive, compassionate care, guiding patients through every step of their transplant journey—from initial evaluation and transplant candidacy assessment to coordination of care with Loyola’s multidisciplinary transplant team, leading into successful and durable kidney transplantation,” said transplant nephrologist Vasil Peev, MD, who will lead the clinic's team. “By establishing a dedicated presence in Northwest Indiana, we aim to improve access to high-quality kidney transplant services, strengthen partnerships with local nephrologists and healthcare providers, and ensure that patients in our region receive the expertise, support and continuity of care they deserve.”
For many patients, pursuing a transplant can mean frequent appointments, extensive testing and coordination across multiple providers. Loyola Medicine Merrillville will make it easier for people across Northwest Indiana to explore the possibility of improved quality of life through transplantation.
