Firm Friends
At Loyola, Internal Medicine residents are divided into five Firms, which are each made up of residents across all training levels. Firm members share ambulatory weeks and rotation blocks on a 4+1 schedule, creating a consistent environment throughout residency. This structure fosters strong mentorship between senior residents and interns, builds community, and supports camaraderie both in clinical settings and beyond. Many Firm traditions, including social events and Friday School, have become highlights that strengthen relationships and wellness among residents.

Where Residents Live
Loyola and Hines VA hospitals are located in Maywood, Illinois within the Chicagoland area, offering residents easy access to both the hospital and the city.
Chicago is the third largest city in the US and is known for its vibrant culture, sports, and dining scene. About 80% of our residents live in Chicago neighborhoods like West Loop, River North, and Wicker Park. The remaining 20% live in nearby suburbs such as Maywood, Forest Park, and Oak Park, where they can find a quieter, more affordable, family-friendly environment with convenient hospital access.
Whether in the city or suburbs, residents always have exciting opportunities to explore throughout their residency training.
