Loyola Medicine’s highly trained emergency physicians provide integrated care for every medical emergency. The state of Illinois and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has designated Loyola a Level I Trauma Center, the only trauma center in Illinois to receive this designation from both organizations.
Our Level I Trauma Center and nationally renowned Burn Center handle some of the most serious trauma cases in the region, seeing over 40,000 seriously ill and injured patients every year.
The pediatric trauma program at Loyola treats 15,000 children and adolescents in the Chicago suburbs' only around-the-clock pediatric trauma program. It is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by Loyola's board-certified pediatric emergency and emergency medicine doctors.

Keeley Family Continues to Grow Emergency Medicine
The Keeley Center for Emergency Medicine Education Broadens Residency Program. The Keeley family of Western Springs, Illinois, has a special relationship with Loyola Medicine, spanning three generations and beginning with patriarch John L. Keeley, MD. Dr. Keeley was a Loyola cardiac surgeon and Chair of the Department of Surgery from 1958 to 1969. In 1976, he won the Stritch Medal, the highest honor bestowed on a Stritch graduate or faculty member. Dr. Keeley was a teacher at heart, who at the end of his career worked in the emergency department helping train residents, before retiring at the age of 78. The Keeley family of Western Springs, Illinois, has a special relationship with Loyola Medicine, spanning three generations, and the focus of their giving to Loyola is dedicated to education and service in honor of Barbara G. Keeley and the late John L. Keeley, Jr.
