Thank you for your interest in the Loyola University Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. At Loyola, resident education is central to our mission. Our goal is to develop exceptional clinicians and surgeons who think critically, engage meaningfully with medical evidence, and share our commitment to teaching and lifelong learning.
Our four-year, ACGME-accredited residency provides comprehensive clinical and surgical training across the full breadth of obstetrics and gynecology. You will work closely with faculty in clinics and operating rooms and benefit from both formal and informal mentorship tailored to your individual career goals. Whether you pursue fellowship training, academic medicine, or private practice, you will find your place here at Loyola. Our CREST program provides structured training in research, critical appraisal, and academic scholarship, while our RELATE program develops your skills as an educator and teacher.

Mission Statement:
Our residency program in obstetrics and gynecology at Loyola University Medical Center endeavors to create a culturally diverse and inclusive program that fosters individual professional development, advances surgical proficiency, promotes excellence in patient care and cultivates the life-long pursuit of medical knowledge. As emphasized by the Jesuit tradition, we endeavor to build a culturally rich academic environment welcoming of all ethnicities, genders and underrepresented minorities, recognizing that this cross-cultural environment will facilitate an ideal healthcare system that is equitable and inclusive of our community, all populations, backgrounds and experiences.
Program Aims:
- Train residents to be excellent physicians in obstetrics and gynecology, allowing them to serve the community and primary care fields as a specialist and consultant in women's health.
- Produce strong gynecologic surgeons, showing expertise in the full scope of the surgical aspects of our specialty.
- Produce skilled consumers of research, which will arm graduates with the ability to review the evidence with a discerning eye, helping them to navigate the ever-changing landscape of medical science.
- Allow the space for residents to explore and develop skill in individual areas of focus: global and community health, research, academic medicine, and teaching.
Welcome! We thank you for your interest in our obstetrics and gynecology residency program. Our mission statement accurately reflects the philosophy that we at Loyola Medicine have toward the education of our residents to graduate as leaders in the field. The program is structured to create an academic environment that will allow the resident to grow from a senior medical student to a proficient practitioner of obstetrics and gynecology. Both knowledge and responsibility increase in a tiered fashion as the resident progresses from intern to chief.
Our faculty are nationally and internationally renowned in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology, as well as the subspecialties of urogynecologic and reconstructive pelvic surgery, maternal-fetal medicine, and gynecologic oncology. We have the honor and privilege of caring for a diverse and complex patient population. Residents are an integral part of the health care team for all of our patients.
We are very proud of the environment we have created for education, patient care, and research. Our graduates have broad and varied experience. Many have pursued subspecialty training, matching in prestigious fellowship programs in every subspecialty, as well as academic generalist positions. An equal number have pursued private practice opportunities, not only in the Chicago area, but nationally. No matter what your goals and desires upon completion of residency are, they can be met by pursuing your training in our institution.
Our environment fosters personal and professional development such that our graduates are outstanding additions to the community of obstetricians and gynecologists. Dear Resident Applicant,
The selection of a training program will be one of the most profound and complex decisions that you will face in your personal and professional life. As you go through the interview process, you will find that all of the programs meet nationally recognized standards, but offer very different styles of education.
The training program you choose will not only affect your education, but will be the place where you meet life-long friends and colleagues. Our program offers exposure to the broad range of every aspect of women's heath. Our residency draws strength from quality patient care activities. This creates an environment which allows all of our physicians to realize their individual potential.
We train the providers of women's health services in competent and compassionate care. Our graduates are excellent clinicians and skilled surgeons who advocate for women at every stage of their lives. It is our tradition to guide leaders in women's health to fellowships, academic general OBGYN practices, and general OBGYN private practices all across the country.
