Neonatal emergencies in the delivery room encompass any acute physiological deviation that threatens a newborn’s immediate survival, anatomical integrity, and/or long-term neurodevelopment. While “visible” failures (i.e. respiratory and cardiovascular come to mind as common occurrences, newborn emergencies span a broad spectrum of structural, metabolic, surgical, and environmental crises. Because a newborn’s condition can worsen in seconds, delivery teams must prepare for every possible medical crisis to eliminate preventable death/permanent injury.
