About
Julie Coughlin, MD is a minimally invasive thoracic surgeon who specializes in benign and malignant conditions of the chest. Dr. Coughlin completed her General Surgery residency at Rush University Medical Center and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. She then completed her Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she was a recipient of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery Robotics Fellowship.
Dr. Coughlin utilizes state-of-the-art robotic technology to perform a variety of operations and procedures through small incisions with shorter recovery time. In addition, she has a particular clinical interest in structural disorders of the chest wall, such as thoracic outlet syndrome and pectus excavatum.
Dr. Coughlin’s research background includes one year as a research fellow in the Surgical Outcomes and Quality Improvement Center (SOQIC) at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, where she focused on surgical outcomes, health services and health policy research. Her current research focuses on the delivery of high-quality surgical care, reduction of healthcare disparities, and surgical education. She has presented her research at regional and national professional conferences, and her work has been published in several high-impact Thoracic Surgery journals.
