Fundamentals of Newborn Assessment and Care (or FONAC) was developed in 2022 by neonatal outreach educators from the 10 Administrative Perinatal Centers in IL, and other neonatal educators at Level III Centers throughout the state. FONAC is a comprehensive head-to-toe course covering the basics, such as a physical exam, to the physiology and pathophysiology of the major body systems of the newborn (i.e. central nervous system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, etc). This program is taught by the educators that created it.
