About this event

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a life-threatening illness among newborns, with a mortality rate as high as 50%, and most cases occurring in premature infants. There is also a wide variation in the rates and outcomes of NEC by race and ethnicity. Nurses are typically the first to detect signs of NEC development, yet they have few “tools in their tool belt” to improve NEC risk awareness. This program will review the pathophysiology and clinical signs of NEC, social determinants of health as related to NEC, and evidence-based practice prevention strategies and management.
