Loyola Medicine Appoints New Division Chief of Gastroenterology
May 16, 2025MAYWOOD, IL – Loyola Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dejan Micic, MD, as the new division chief of gastroenterology, effective immediately. In this role, Dr. Micic will oversee the division's clinical, research and educational initiatives while continuing his clinical practice at Loyola.

Clarke Chair and Professor, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. “His exceptional clinical expertise, research contributions and commitment to medical education make him the ideal candidate early in his career to advance our gastroenterology division.”
Dr. Micic brings extensive experience in gastroenterology and hepatology to the position. Prior to joining Loyola Medicine, he served as an associate professor in the section of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the University of Chicago. He earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan. He completed fellowships at the University of Chicago in gastroenterology, where he served as chief fellow, and in clinical nutrition at Northwestern University, as well as a fellowship in clinical medical ethics at the Maclean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago.
As a recognized expert in inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and celiac disease, Dr. Micic has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and has been the principal investigator on several clinical trials.
In his new role, Dr. Micic will oversee all operations of the division of gastroenterology, focusing on expanding access to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, enhancing multidisciplinary care for complex digestive diseases, and promoting innovation in gastroenterological research.
Dr. Micic is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine and is a member of several organizations, including the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
