Treating Prostate Cancer with High Dose Rate Brachytherapy

Loyola is the first academic medical center in northern Illinois to offer high dose rate (HDR) prostate brachytherapy, a precise radiation treatment for prostate cancer. The radiation dose is delivered in minutes and removed immediately after the treatment. HDR brachytherapy differs from the most common form of prostate brachytherapy, in which radioactive “seeds” are implanted in the prostate and remain radioactive for months.
