Luke’s Story: One young man’s triumph over a rare spinal cord disorder
Thirteen-year-old Luke woke his parents up in the middle of the night saying he didn't feel well. Soon he lost all feeling in his legs. At Loyola, Luke was diagnosed with Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistula, a rare vascular lesion on the spinal cord. After undergoing successful surgery to correct the problem, Luke spent three weeks recovering in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Thanks to Loyola neurosurgeons, he’s back at school and earning straight A’s. You can be a hero for children like Luke by joining us at the Health, Hope & Heroes 5K Run/Walk to benefit pediatric health programs at Loyola University Health System.
