MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Dr. Kathy Albain, who has earned an international reputation for her research on breast cancer and lung cancer, has been named one of America's Top Doctors for Women by Women's Health magazine.
The magazine teamed up with the research firm Castle Connolly to create the list of best doctors in 10 specialties. Albain was among five doctors in the Midwest, and 20 in the country, to be named top doctors for cancer care.
Albain directs the Breast Clinical Research Program within Loyola University Health System and is director of Loyola's Thoracic Oncology Program.
Albain has done groundbreaking research on new drug treatments that are customized for individual patients. She was lead author of a pivotal study of a gene test that accurately predicts which patients will benefit from chemotherapy. While Albain is best known for her research, many patients say that what they appreciate most is how hard she works on their behalf.
Albain lives in Oak Park.
