Loyola Nurse Executive Honored By Nursing Peers

MAYWOOD, Ill. - Debbie Jasovsky, PhD, RN, CNAA, BC, associate chief nurse executive at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill., has received the Professional Recognition Award from the Organization of Nurse Executives/NJ. This award is peer recognition for her contributions to the nursing profession in New Jersey, where she worked before joining Loyola.


Loyola nurses present poster at critical care conference Jennifer Johnson, RN, BSN; Erin Mahoney, RN, BSN; and Jeff Sorenson, RN, BSN, presented the poster, "Does the Lung Allocation Score Work," at the American Association of Critical Care Nurses' 34th Annual Midwest Critical Care Conference. Johnson, Mahoney and Sorenson work in the cardiovascular transplantation department at Loyola.


Loyola nurses abstract to be published in journal Diabetes The abstract "Reducing Hyperglycemia Hospital-wide: The Basal Bolus Concept," by Donna Murphy, APN, BC ADM, CED; Rita Vercruysse, RN, BSN, MPH; and Terese Bertucci, APN, CNP, CDE, has been selected for publication in the American Diabetes Association 68th Scientific Sessions Abstract, June 2008, supplement to the journal Diabetes. The abstract describes a hospital-wide experience with insulin protocols over five years at Loyola. Murphy, Vercruysse and Bertucci work in the specialty medicine, case management department at Loyola.


Loyola's Burn Center nurses achieve critical care certification Jaclyn Kiraly, RN, BSN, CCRN; Laura Madsen RN, BSN, CCRN; Paula Petersen RN, BSN, CCRN; and Jessica Wallin RN, BSN, CCRN, have earned Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification. Kiraly, Madsen, Petersen and Wallin work in the Burn Center at Loyola.


Loyola's Burn Center nurses achieve trauma care certification Carla Cavaliere RN, BSN, TNCC; Colleen Hammill RN, BSN, TNCC; Jackie McCarthy-Ortega RN, BSN, TNCC; Sarah Pacini RN, BSN, TNCC; Paula Petersen RN, BSN, TNCC; Jessica Wallin RN, BSN, TNCC; and Jessica Licari RN, BSN, TNCC, have earned Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification. Cavaliere, Hammill, McCarthy-Ortega, Pacini, Petersen, Wallin and Licari work in the Burn Center at Loyola.


Loyola nurses present paper focusing on EPIC Julie Glen, MBA, RN; and Sue Flores, MS, RN, presented "Implementation: A Model of Self Sufficiency" in Verona, Wis. The presentation described the use of the SuperUser Role for EPIC Inpatient MultiDoc Implementation. Flores works in health system administration and Glen works in the information technologies department at Loyola.


Loyola nurses achieve oncology nursing certification Linda Flemm, RN, MSN, AOCN; and Margaret Zimowska, RN, AOCN, have received national certification as oncology nurses from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corp. Flemm and Zimowska work in the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center at Loyola.


Loyola nurse assumes newly created nursing director position Mary Morrow, PhD, APRN, BC has accepted a newly created position as director of nursing at Loyola. In this role, Morrow is responsible for patient-care policies and procedures. Her duties include the promotion of practice changes to improve quality measures, especially pressure ulcer prevalence and Loyola's Positive Patient Encounter Program.
