Dr. Joseph Ahn will also serve as associate chief of hepatology services
MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Dr. Joseph Ahn has been named medical director of the liver transplantation program at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
"I'm pleased to be a member of the Loyola team. This medical center is committed to expanding quality access to transplant services, which will become more of a need for patients as our population ages," said Ahn, who is also assistant professor, Department of Medicine, Stritch School of Medicine.
Ahn has also been named associate chief of hepatology services at Loyola University Hospital.
Ahn's professional interests include hepatitis and liver transplantation. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the American College of Gastroenterology, American College of Physicians and the European Association for the Study of the Liver.
A resident of Chicago, Ahn began his affiliation with Loyola in July 2009. He received his medical degree in 2000 from Northwestern Universityâs Feinberg School of Medicine in Evanston, Ill. He completed an internship in internal medicine in 2001 and a residency in internal medicine in 2003, both at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago. In 2006, he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Feinberg School of Medicine. In 2008, Ahn completed a master of science in clinical investigation degree at Northwestern University.
Ahn comes to Loyola from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where he served in the section of hepatology and the department of internal medicine. He was also the associate program director of the gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship program.
Ahn has published dozens of research articles, abstracts and reviews in peer-reviewed journals, and is co-author of Radiation Colopathy and Proctopathy: In The Colon.
He is fluent in Korean and holds black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Kendo.
Ahn cares for patients at Loyola Outpatient Center and Loyola University Hospital, both at 2160 S. First Ave., Maywood.
