Pediatricians Available to Comment on How to Keep Kids Safe near Water
WHAT: A recent study in the journal Pediatrics, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, warns of the hazards of portable backyard pools. According to the study, they pose similar drowning risks as in-ground pools but lack the security. âThe importance of supervision canât be overstated. Serious injuries and even death can happen so quickly. Most drowning incidents happen when a child has been out of a parentâs sight for less than 5 minutes,â said Dr. Tony Pangan, assistant professor of pediatrics at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Pangan is available to comment on how to keep kids safe, especially near water.
