Current Housestaff - Committees

Please see below for some opportunities to get involved in committees at Loyola and who to contact for more information. Your Program Leadership and Chief Residents may know of other opportunities not listed below.

Housestaff Governance

Housestaff Governance serves as a relay point for information from and to programs.  It also serves as an opportunity to get to know your fellow trainees in GME.  HSG meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 12-1:00 pm unless otherwise notified. Meetings are usually held in SSOM 150 and lunch is provided. Representatives to this committee are peer selected. Each program should have at least two representatives.

Items of concern in your program should be brought to this group to discuss. Institutional/ACGME issues for which the GME office is responsible will be discussed here.

These include:

  • ACGME communication
  • Hospital initiatives/policy changes
  • EPIC changes/initiatives
  • Call Room issues
  • Safety Concerns
  • How to report mistreatment or patient safety concerns

For more information, please contact your program director or Dr. Greg Ozark

GME-C meets on the second Friday of the month from 7:30-9:00 am in SSOM 360. Members of this committee represent housestaff for insight/opinions and direct feedback to the committee. Participation of residents and fellows on this committee is required by ACGME.

Each Program Director will appoint at least two representatives from each residency program to serve for the upcoming year with the expectation that at least one individual be able to attend each meeting.

The HQSC meets every third Tuesday of the month between 5-6pm.  The goal of this committee is to identify motivated residents and connect them into the various Loyola/Trinity Quality Improvement projects, as well as to ensure residents maintain a voice in hospital initiatives.

Members of this committee are awarded a GME Quality and Safety Certificate (perfect for a CV) for any individuals meeting the following criteria:

  • Attendance at 7 of 11 HQSC meetings
  • Active participation in quality improvement or safety project
  • Completion of Basic Certificate for IHI Open School Courses

If candidates or program directors have any questions, they should contact Dr. Amy Murray

Housestaff Wellness Committee

The Housestaff Wellness Committee is a group of trainees and GME faculty who are focused on increasing and maintaining a strong focus on trainee wellness and resilience throughout the continuum of medical training. Meetings are at least quarterly for 1 hour (with lunch), and responsibilities include active participation in meetings as well as executing wellness initiatives and events throughout the institution on a monthly basis.  Work will be episodic, as different programs take the lead on individual initiatives throughout the year.

If candidates or program directors have any questions, they should contact Dr. Greg Ozark

Patient Safety Evaluation Committee

Patient Safety Evaluation Committee (PSEC), meets most Mondays from 12:00 pm -1:30 pm, on the third floor of the Maguire Building.  Programs should contact Dr. Amy Murray to let her know ahead of time if the a resident or fellow will participate (only once or twice throughout the year).  She will provide a brief orientation and the trainee/program will receive credit for their participation (as it counts as a higher level experience, as recognized by ACGME).
