Loyola’s largest-ever capital campaign
Building on 138 years of academic excellence and commitment to heath care in Chicago, on September 20, alumni and friends will celebrate the public launch of Loyola University Chicago’s half-billion-dollar fundraising campaign at an kick-off event on Loyola’s Water Tower Campus in downtown Chicago.
The campaign, "Partner: The Campaign for the Future of Loyola," will support both the University (LUC) and the Health System (LUHS) and is the largest in Loyola’s history. It aims to raise much-needed funding for endowments, scholarships, research, patient care, and facilities—top priorities at LUC and LUHS. More than $250 million has already been collected toward the $500 million goal.
"We are leading the University and the Health System to a new destination that can only be reached through great partnerships. This Campaign for the Future of Loyola is for our students, patients, researchers, and teachers; it is for all of these people, and for those who will come after them," says Loyola President Michael J. Garanzini, S.J.
Loyola University Chicago and Loyola University Health System are widely respected for their superior academics and health care, as well as for their deep roots in the community. Loyola’s Stritch School of Medicine is the only Catholic medical school in the country that has a health system in its organization. Loyola University Chicago is the largest Jesuit Catholic research University in the nation. With an alumni base of 120, 000, Loyola is inextricably connected to Chicago. This campaign will deepen that connection and build on the momentum of Loyola’s recent renaissance in growth and development.
"We just unveiled an ambitious strategic plan that will set our course in patient care, research, and the education of health-care professionals for the next 10 years," says Paul K. Whelton, MB, MD, MSc, president and CEO of LUHS. "We are at a pivotal time in our health system’s history. Partnering with our benefactors will be critical to this endeavor."
Fr. Garanzini continues, "Educating tomorrow’s leaders, serving the underprivileged, and discovering cures to illness is all possible through our partnership with our alumni and friends."
Loyola University Health System (LUHS) is a member of Trinity Health. Based in the western suburbs of Chicago, LUHS is a quaternary care system with a 61-acre main medical center campus, the 36-acre Gottlieb Memorial Hospital campus and more than 30 primary and specialty care facilities in Cook, Will and DuPage counties. The medical center campus is conveniently located in Maywood, 13 miles west of the Chicago Loop and 8 miles east of Oak Brook, Ill. The heart of the medical center campus, Loyola University Hospital, is a 569-licensed-bed facility. It houses a Level 1 Trauma Center, a Burn Center and the Ronald McDonald® Children’s Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center. Also on campus are the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, Loyola Outpatient Center, Center for Heart & Vascular Medicine and Loyola Oral Health Center as well as the LUC Stritch School of Medicine, the LUC Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing and the Loyola Center for Fitness. Loyola's Gottlieb campus in Melrose Park includes the 264-licensed-bed community hospital, the Professional Office Building housing 150 private practice clinics, the Adult Day Care, the Gottlieb Center for Fitness, Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery and Bariatric Care and the Loyola Cancer Care & Research at the Marjorie G. Weinberg Cancer Center at Melrose Park.
