Loyola University Health System Hosting a Panel of Experts to Discuss Implications of New Healthcare Reform
The recent passing of healthcare reform legislation is being heralded as one of the most unprecedented acts of government in the history of our nation. Still, the question resounding through businesses, hospitals and even homes is, “What does this mean for me?”
Loyola University Health System is hosting a panel of medical experts from Loyola’s medical, law and nursing schools to help answer that question.
“This is an interdisciplinary dialogue that is just the beginning,” said Dhru Battacharya, JD, MPH, assistant professor for health policy at Loyola University Medical Center. “We want to get ideas flowing and help answer specific questions that people have about the impact of this landmark decision.”
The panelists will discuss the implications the legislation will have on their specific discipline as well as host a question-and-answer time.
“Social change like this only comes along once or twice in a lifetime. It’s hard for people to get their hands around what this means for them individually as well as us as a nation,” said Mark Kuczewski, PhD, director of the Loyola University Chicago Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy. “It’s important to have this discussion to understand the bigger picture including the values of helping those who are in need as well as the challenges it will bring.”
