MAYWOOD -- Cancer survivors and their families and friends are invited to Loyola University Health System's free cancer survivor program on Saturday, March 21.
"Living Well: What Every Cancer Survivor Should Know" will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chicago Marriott Oak Brook, 1401 W. 22nd. St., Oak Brook. Complementary continental breakfast and lunch will be served.
Cancer specialists will discuss the many issues facing cancer survivors, such as physical and emotional late and long term complications of cancer care, impact upon personal relationships, nutrition and financial concerns.
Dr. Patricia Robinson, Director, Cancer Survivorship Program, will give the keynote speech titled, "Cancer Survivorship: A Need Whose Time Has Come."
Dr. Kathy Albain, a nationally recognized breast and lung cancer clinician and researcher, will moderate two panel discussions by Loyola physicians and professional experts.
The first panel, "Late and Long Term Effects of Cancer Treatment," will include talks on late complications of radiation therapy, breast cancer, hematologic cancer, lung cancers, head and neck cancers, gastrointestinal cancers and gynecological cancers.
The second panel, "Learning to Live as A Cancer Survivor," will include panel discussions on genetics, sexuality, nutrition, financial concerns and coping.
The following organizations will staff information booths: American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Network of Strength Illinois, Gilda's Club, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago and Wellness House.
