MAYWOOD, Il. -- Dr. Constantine Godellas has joined Loyola's Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center as director of the Breast Clinical Program and co-director of the multi-disciplinary Breast Oncology Center.
Dr. Godellas, a surgical oncologist, was recruited from Rush University Medical Center, where he was an associate professor of surgery.
"We are indeed fortunate to have a surgeon of Dr. Godellas' stature join our breast care program," said medical oncologist Dr. Kathy Albain, director of Loyola's Breast Research Program and co-director of the Breast Oncology Center. "Not only will our clinical and research programs jointly benefit from his expertise, but he brings skills that will bring great benefit to all of our patients."
The Breast Oncology Center joins multiple specialists together at the Bernardin cancer center, including experts in surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, clinical research, nursing, risk assessment, genetic counseling and social services.
Dr. Godellas also will work with medical oncologist Dr. Joseph Clark, to establish a multidisciplinary melanoma oncology center.
In addition to breast cancer and melanoma, Dr. Godellas' special interests include other breast diseases and sarcoma.
Dr. Godellas also will practice at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, which is part of the Loyola University Health System. His late father, Dr. William "Vasilios" Godellas, was an internist and a member of the founding medical staff of Gottlieb.
Dr. Godellas earned his medical degree from Northwestern University and did residencies at Northwestern and the University of South Florida. He did a surgical research fellowship at the University of South Florida and a surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Godellas is an associate professor of surgery at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
Dr. Godellas, who also speaks Greek, lives in River Forest with his wife and four children.
