Pediatric cardiology expert joins Loyola University Health System

MAYWOOD, Ill. – (May 23, 2014) Sarah E. Perkins, MD, has joined Loyola University Health System’s pediatric cardiology team. She also is an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

Perkins will be working closely with Loyola’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Division to help care for prenatal patients with heart problems. Her other medical interests include non-invasive cardiac imaging, including pediatric and fetal echocardiography.

“I love being a pediatric cardiologist because it allows me to care for my patients throughout their infancy, childhood and adolescence. I also have a passion for caring for families whose child has been diagnosed with a cardiac condition prior to birth. I strive to guide families through every step of the process from diagnosis through delivery, treatment and long-term follow-up,” Perkins said.

She is a member of the American Heart Association and American Academy of Pediatrics. She has a passion for research and education and also has been active in providing care to those in need both internationally and locally. She was a part of a pediatric team that brought care to children in Tanzania and was part of a pediatric medical outreach team in St. Louis.

Perkins earned her medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

Perkins sees patients at Loyola’s main medical campus in Maywood as well as the Loyola Center for Children’s Health at Oakbrook Terrace, 1S224 Summit Ave.,  Suite 101.
