Heart Transplantation

Heart Transplantation

What is it for?

Heart transplantation may be a life-saving treatment for individuals with end-stage heart failure. At Loyola, those individuals are cared for by the most experienced and successful heart transplant team in Illinois. Heart transplantation is an extensive process and includes a detailed evaluation of the patient, a search for a donor heart, the operation and a recovery period. In some patients, a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) will be used to help patients waiting for a transplant.
