3rd Annual Loyola Tennis Tournament to be Held Sept. 24 at Oak Park Tennis Center

MAYWOOD, Ill. -- The 3rd Annual Loyola Tennis Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Oak Park Tennis Center, 544 N. Harlem Ave., River Forest.

"The beautiful clay courts were recently renovated, and they will provide a wonderful playing atmosphere," said Dr. Neeru Jayanthi, director of the Loyola Tennis Medicine Program.

The tournament, open to all levels, will support research for the Ronald McDonald® Children's Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center.

Funds raised from last year's tournament supported Loyola pediatric specialists who are evaluating the causes of deep vein thrombosis (blood clots) in children admitted to the Ronald McDonald® Children's Hospital. 

"In addition to supporting research, the tournament will bring awareness to the many services and leading-edge care provided by Loyola's pediatric medical and surgical specialists," said Dr. Jerold Stirling, department chairman.

The team round-robin tournament will have a junior/competitive division and an adult/recreational division, guaranteeing play all afternoon. Space is limited to 70 players. The tournament will be held from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., and the finals will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The event will include a round-robin tournament that will allow people of all skill levels to participate. "With this format, everyone gets to be involved," Jayanthi said. "It's a chance to have fun, enjoy a wonderful sport and support a great cause."

The cost is $50 per participant ($30 per student, including junior high, high school and Loyola University Chicago medical, nursing, graduate and undergraduate students). Included in the fee are light refreshments, T-shirts, balls and finalist trophies.

The tournament is sponsored by Loyola University Health System Sports Medicine and Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics.
