For the eighth year in a row, U.S. News & World Report magazine has ranked Loyola University Hospital as one of the top 50 hospitals nationwide for heart and heart surgery (29th). Loyola also was ranked among the top 50 for ear, nose and throat (43rd); urology (44th); and neurology and neurosurgery (45th).
These honors place Loyola among a prestigious group of hospitals that provide the highest caliber of care for some of the nation’s sickest patients. 2010-11 Best Hospitals includes rankings of 152 medical centers nationwide in various specialties. The rankings are based on reputation, death rates, patient safety and care-related factors.
The news that Loyola remained in the top 50 for heart and heart surgery by the magazine adds to the organization’s strong list of accolades in this category. The federal government's recent Hospital Compare report card stated that the 30-day mortality rate of heart failure patients at Loyola University Hospital is 24 percent lower than the national average.
