Betty Dickens of Elmwood Park said news that she was pregnant – at the age of 42 – was the ultimate shock. But an even bigger surprise came when Betty learned she was carrying twins.
Betty visited Azita Ardakani, MD, her obstetrician at Gottlieb on Dec. 20, 2007, and learned she was carrying not one but two babies. “I was overwhelmed and nervous but Dr. Ardakani made me feel very safe and secure,” she said.
“Betty was in excellent physical condition but the two factors: her age, and the fact that she was carrying twins, made me proceed with caution,” said Dr. Ardakani. So, on April 2, 2008, Dr. Ardakani made an appointment for Betty at Loyola’s Fetal Assessment Center. Since the affiliation with Loyola University Health System, Gottlieb patients enjoy easier access to advanced resources at the Fetal Assessment Center on the Melrose Park campus.
“Our physicians are specialists in caring for mothers with underlying conditions who need more than routine pregnancy care,” said John Gianopoulos, MD, FACOG, professor and chairman, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, LUC Stritch School of Medicine.
At the Center, a level II ultrasound was performed to make sure the positioning of both babies was good and that they were developing properly. “I was impressed by the attention and care I received from the staff,” Betty said.
She gave birth to Catherine and Rachel on July 9, 2008. “I had a wonderful experience, and I have two happy, healthy daughters who are approaching their first birthday.”
