You have a prescription for a screening mammogram, and you're ready to make an appointment. Here are three reasons to consider Loyola for your next mammogram.
Digital Imaging – Loyola uses state-of-the-art digital imaging at all five screening mammography locations. In a major multi-center study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, digital mammograms were found to be more accurate than film mammograms in detecting cancer in women who are younger than 50, have dense breasts or are pre- or perimenopausal.
Expert Care – Images are interpreted by Loyola's breast imaging team. Should the need arise, Loyola offers patients immediate access to a multidisciplinary team committed to comprehensive and patient-centered breast care. Every Friday, case reports for new patients are reviewed by nearly 25 specialists - diagnostic radiologists, surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, pathologists, oncology and surgical nurses, and other staff members. The specialists analyze each picture and create the treatment plan most likely to beat the cancer. The core treatment team meets with the patient later that day and outlines the full journey ahead. They discuss her eligibility for research studies available at Loyola, answer questions and provide needed support.
Convenience – Loyola's five screening locations make it easy to schedule an appointment. Same-day or next-day appointments are often available.

As we all try to squeeze so many obligations into each day, Loyola is making it easier for busy people to see a doctor.
"Our focus is patient convenience," said Daniel Post, Loyola's senior vice president, ambulatory programs and system services. "Our goal is to add 1,500 appointment slots every week. We know it's hard to leave work to see a doctor, so we asked our physicians to be more flexible. They have responded enthusiastically."
Some clinics open at 6:30 a.m., some stay open until 8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays. Patients my also seek urgent care at the Loyola Immediate Care Clinic at Homer Glen, which is open daily, including holidays and no appointments are required. In addition, a Sunday clinic has been added at the main campus in Maywood to allow further access for patients to see a primary care physician.
General X-ray and laboratory services are available at all Loyola sites, while medical specialists and more complex diagnostic services are accessible at select locations with extended hours of operation.
"Our expanded hours cater to patients who want to see a specialist or have a procedure, such as a colonoscopy, outside traditional business hours to avoid taking time off from work," Mr. Post said. "Thus far we've been very successful."
