PHYSICIAN WHO SPECIALIZES IN THE DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT OF EPILEPSY, SEIZURES JOINS LOYOLA

Dr. Maria E. Baldwin attracted by chance to offer patients comprehensive care

MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Dr. Maria E. Baldwin has been appointed assistant professor, Department of Neurology, Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

Baldwin has also been named medical director of Loyola's neurophysiology laboratory.

"When you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder, it is a challenge that has a huge impact on your life," Baldwin said. "I'm able to offer my patients comprehensive care here at Loyola. That was a big draw for me."

Baldwin's professional interests include epilepsy, seizures, pregnancies complicated by epilepsy and neuro-intraoperative monitoring. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology.

Baldwin began her affiliation with Loyola in 2009. She received her medical degree in 2000 from the Medical College of Virginia of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She then completed an internship in the department of medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in 2004.

In 2005, she completed a residency in neurology at the University of Chicago Hospitals in Chicago where she also completed an epilepsy fellowship in 2005. Baldwin comes to Loyola from the University of Chicago Hospitals where she served as a clinical instructor in epilepsy in the department of neurology.

Baldwin has published a number of research articles, abstracts and reviews in some of the world’s most prestigious medical journals, including Neurology, Stroke and AIDS. She has also lectured and presented posters at a number of medical conferences.
