Leading the Way in Technology

Loyola is always looking forward, whether it’s the latest in treatment and research or patient care. As part of our mission to provide our patients with the highest level of service, we have marked some technological milestones, including:

  • Loyola was the first health-care system in the Chicago area to offer access to a patient portal on an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
  • Loyola was the first health-care system in the western and southwestern suburbs to offer a Web portal for its primary-care patients to view their health history, appointments and preventive-care reminders. We were also the first to set up secure e-mail so that patients could communicate with their doctors’ offices. This Web portal, myLoyola Select, was made available to all Loyola patients in December 2010.
  • Loyola was the first health-care system in the western and southwestern suburbs to offer return appointment scheduling online via myLoyola Select for all Loyola primary-care patients.
  • Loyola was also the first hospital-based provider in the western and southwestern suburbs to offer electronic prescribing, including refill requests, from all Loyola physicians in clinic offices. This allows patients to pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy immediately following their appointments.
  • Loyola was the first health-care system in the Chicago area to offer access to a patient portal on an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
  • Loyola was the first hospital in the Chicago area to use a robot to automatically package first-dose drugs with bar codes.
  • Loyola was the first health-care system in the Chicago area to link EPIC at Loyola Hospital with MEDITECH at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. EPIC is very popular in large hospitals, and MEDITECH is very popular in community hospitals.
  • Gottlieb Memorial Hospital of Loyola was the first hospital in the Chicago area to use push-to-talk technology (direct instant wireless communication) among nurses and other caregivers.
And as technology evolves, expect Loyola to be ahead of the curve with innovations in patient-based services.
