Corneal Disease
The cornea and anterior segment service offers consultation in the medical and surgical management of a wide variety of diseases of your cornea, the thin transparent tissue that covers the outer surface of the eye (conjunctiva) and anterior segment.
Special areas of expertise include:
- High-risk corneal transplantation
- Surgical management of severe ocular surface disease including:
- Stem cell transplantation
- Amniotic membrane transplantation
- Severe dry eye, blepharitis
- Corneal infection
- Abnormal cone-shaped protrusion of the cornea of the eye (keratoconus)
- Therapeutic contact lens fitting (through the Contact Lens Service)
- Excimer laser refractive surgery
- Abnormal mass of tissue arising from the conjunctiva of the inner corner of the eye that obstructs vision by growing over the cornea (pterygium)
Diagnostic services include:
- Corneal topography and corneal thickness (Orbscan)
- Corneal thickness (pachymetry)
- Immunohistopathlogical diagnosis of ocular surface disease (cicatricial pemphigoid, corneal intraepithelial neoplasia)
- Anterior segment digital photography
