Corneal Disease

The cornea and anterior segment service offers consultation in the medical and surgical management of a wide variety of diseases of your cornea, the thin transparent tissue that covers the outer surface of the eye (conjunctiva) and anterior segment.

Special areas of expertise include:

  • High-risk corneal transplantation
  • Surgical management of severe ocular surface disease including:
    • Stem cell transplantation
    • Amniotic membrane transplantation
  • Severe dry eye, blepharitis
  • Corneal infection
  • Abnormal cone-shaped protrusion of the cornea of the eye (keratoconus)
  • Therapeutic contact lens fitting (through the Contact Lens Service)
  • Excimer laser refractive surgery
  • Abnormal mass of tissue arising from the conjunctiva of the inner corner of the eye that obstructs vision by growing over the cornea (pterygium)

Diagnostic services include:

  • Corneal topography and corneal thickness (Orbscan)
  • Corneal thickness (pachymetry)
  • Immunohistopathlogical diagnosis of ocular surface disease (cicatricial pemphigoid, corneal intraepithelial neoplasia)
  • Anterior segment digital photography
