Acute Rehabilitation Unit

The Acute Rehabilitation Unit is a specialized area with 32 private rooms on the fifth floor of Loyola Hospital. Each room has a wheelchair-accessible bathroom and is designed especially for rehabilitation patients. You can watch a video Movie Icon to learn more about our Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation program.

Your doctor will refer you to the unit if you meet specific requirements for intense rehabilitation therapy. You qualify if you:

  • need two of three types of therapy: physical, occupational and speech
  • need 24-hour physician and nursing services
  • are able to participate in three hours of therapy per day.

Your acute rehab team is led by a physical medicine & rehabilitation physician and may include a registered nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech/language pathologist, recreational therapist, case manager or social worker, dietician, neuropsychologist, patient-care rehab technician and others.

Your treatment is designed to help you move toward the ultimate goal of gaining independence and leaving the hospital. During rehab, it is very important for you to understand what to expect as a patient. Your progress will depend on your attitude and level of motivation. We will do everything we can to help you.

Patients in Loyola’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit are surrounded with specialized, certified care that is proven to produce more favorable results than most acute rehab units nationwide. You can choose Loyola with confidence.
