Multiple Sclerosis and Demyelinating Diseases

In the multiple sclerosis (MS) clinic, physicians take a multidisciplinary approach to patient care while emphasizing the personal relationship with the patient and family support. To manage the multiple health issues patients face, neurologists work with urologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, ophthalmologists, psychiatrists and social workers as needed. Technologies used for diagnosis may include evoked potentials, MRI and MRI spectroscopy. 

Treatment aims to slow the disease progression. Physicians are actively engaged in testing new medications for MS, so patients may have opportunities to participate in clinical trials. Nurses are readily accessible to patients to help them understand the disease and address questions and concerns. Loyola University Health System’s (Loyola) clinic is recognized by the local MS society chapter and receives numerous referrals from that organization.
