Cardiac Arrhythmias and Atrial Fibrillation

Loyola’s heart rhythm specialists (electrophysiologists) are among the nation’s leaders in the care of patients with heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias). A skilled team of physicians, nurses and other health-care professionals provides an integrated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of rhythm disturbances and associated underlying conditions. Loyola serves as a major regional and national referral center for the treatment of complex rhythm problems, offering treatment options often unavailable elsewhere. Loyola physicians were the first in Illinois to use radiofrequency catheter ablation to cure heart rhythm disorders.

Since many different conditions such as high blood pressure, congestive heart failure and valve disease predispose people to the development of atrial fibrillation, it’s critical to fight the underlying causes of this condition. We specifically tailor our therapy to each patient in order to reduce the risk of stroke, eliminate symptoms, improve overall health and increase the quality of life.

The heart rhythm specialists at Loyola offer leading technology for the treatment of atrial fibrillation including pharmacologic treatments, ablation, device and surgical therapy. Many new approaches and treatments for heart rhythm disorders are pioneered here and become the standard of care. Loyola advances include new energy treatments for catheter ablation and remote, magnetically and robotically guided catheter navigation for improving accuracy and consistency of ablation.

The team is comprised of specialists in electrophysiology, heart failure, vascular disease and cardiac surgery, along with specialty nurse practitioners and ancillary staff.
