Loyola Named One of AARP's Top Hospitals

Loyola University Hospital is named one of the nation's top hospitals by the AARP in its May/June issue of AARP The Magazine. Loyola is one of 125 hospitals in the 53 largest metropolitan areas to earn a top ranking.

AARP is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization for people over age 50.

The top hospital list was compiled by the non-profit Consumer's Checkbook, and is based on surveys and government statistics. Consumer Checkbook sent more than 280,000 questionnaires to doctors in major metropolitan areas, asking them to rate local hospitals. For example, 82 percent of doctors rated Loyola very good or excellent; the average for all U.S. hospitals is 35 percent. Consumers Checkbook also examined government safety statistics and data on death and complication rates.
