Title:

Nocturia and Chronic Medical Illness

Purpose:

To determine whether the severity of nocturia is related to renal function, glucose control and fluid intake, in samples of patients with and without diabetes mellitus. The use of this data may help to develop a valid, clinically useful algorithm for the evaluation and treatment of patients with nocturia.

Elgibility:

20 women with DM with HbAlc < 7% and no nephropathy; 20 women with DM with HbAlc >7% and no nephropathy; 20 women with DM with HbAlc <7% with nephropathy; 20 women with DM with HbAlc >7% with nephropathy all experiencing symptoms of nocturia, and controls without DM and without chronic kidney disease. Patients may not have painful bladder symptoms, refractory urge incontinence, nocturnal enuresis, CHF, sleep apnea, PVR >100 ml or current UTI. Patients may not suffer from Pelvic Organ Prolapse beyond hymen..

Treatment:

Your treatment will be given by your doctor, no additional treatment is part of this study. Participants in this study will complete questionnaires, demographics, urine diaries (two days), collect urine and provide one blood and one fresh urine sample.
