Clinical Research Offers Opportunities for Participation

Loyola is well known for medical research. Last year alone, Loyola received $45.64 million in research funding to support the work of our research teams, including our physicians.

We all benefit from the advances made in clinical research. Loyola’s research efforts concentrate on the causes, treatment and prevention of many diseases and conditions. Clinical research opportunities are available in many areas including cancer, cardiovascular, neurosciences, women’s pelvic health, transplants, stroke and endocrinology. In fact, approximately one-quarter of Loyola cancer patients volunteer to join clinical studies.

Volunteers who join research studies are very important. Patients who qualify for clinical studies may benefit from access to the investigational drugs and procedures before they are otherwise available. People who participate in clinical research contribute to medical knowledge that may help others in the future.

While many studies ask patients with very specific conditions to join, some studies are asking healthy participants to join studies so that Loyola researchers can improve disease prevention or to determine the most effective dosing of certain types of drugs.
